The Future of Self Funding and the Self Insurance Industry
Jan 5, 2010
As we enter a new year, 2010, the self insurance industry is poised for significant growth. The new healthcare reform bill if passed into law will eliminate the annual excise tax on third party administrators, which will mean self funded plans will have a huge advantage over self insured plans and will be able to operate more affordably and more profitably. Although TPAs will still have to bear a pro rate portion of a three year aggregate industry fee. The potential lower cost and the advantages of easier cash flow during these hard economic times may provide a huge boom to self funding in 2010.
I am very excited to see the direction of the self insured industry. We will definitely see growth in 2010 within the self funding sector. A big push in this direction will be the upcoming National Self Funding Employer Healthcare and Workers Compensation Conference, which takes place September 20-22nd, 2010 in Los Angeles, CA. It is the first self funding conferences of it’s kind which will focus on employers, large consulting firms and agents who really don’t attend conferences. It will bring together all the major players in the industry for some of the most intense networking. The most exciting part is that the conference will have pre-scheduled private networking meetings for attendees, where attendees can pre-schedule up to 50 private one-on-one meetings. This has never happened before in the self insurance industry and is the conference’s main goal and focus of creating new business relationships, deals, and intense networking. This self insurance conference will be the official conference of the Self Funding Magazine. I hope to see you in Los Angeles in September and look forward to a successful 2010 for the Self Insurance Industry and Self Funding Magazine!
